The word pandemic strikes fear into the hearts of most of us. We hear this word an immediately think of a deadly virus that spreads like wildfire, killing off populations of people mercilessly. Unfortunately, this analogy is true to some degree. A pandemic is basically an alteration in an existing virus that has caused a mutation or subtype of the viral species to occur. This can lead to epidemics because they are spread easily among the populace. A nurse who took Duncan’s information noted that Duncan was from a “virus zone,” however, the hospital claimed a software error led to the Liberian man’s discharge. Duncan returned two days later, and ultimately died from the Ebola virus. By that time, dozens of other people had been exposed the deadly disease. Coronavirus ( COVID-19) cases can now be found in seven states including Arizona, California, Illinois, Massachusetts, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin. There are 57 cases of coronavirus in the United States as of February 26, 2020. Both the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) are issuing warnings about the coronavirus, and urging people to take precautions. The coronavirus currently has a fatality rate of 2 percent, in comparison to a rate of .08 percent fatality rates for regular influenza (flu). The coronavirus ( COVID-19) affects the respiratory tract and can lead to pneumonia and SARS. Euthanize Animals Exposed to the Ebola Virus?

Should Animals Exposed to the Ebola Virus be Immediately Euthanized? A woman in Madrid, Spain was the first to be infected with the Ebola virus in the region. Maria Teresa Romero Ramos, who is 40 years old, was infected while acting as a caregiver for infected priests who had contracted the virus while working in West Africa. Although Romero-Ramos wore protective clothing while treating the priests, and is only known to have entered the room where they were being treated a couple of times, she still someone contracted the Ebola virus. She told reporters for El Pais, a Spanish newspaper, that she might have contracted the virus while removing her protective gear. No further details are known at this time about how she may have become infected. Sadly, her dog, Excalibur was also exposed to the Ebola virus. Ebola can be transmitted to, and carried by, animals.
